Financing Plans (2007 – 2010)
Goal:
Secure $100,000 per year for the next three years to support the implementation of a formal organization and move forward on 2 -3 priority areas of focus.

The challenge for IPALA in moving to a formal active organization is to find sufficient funding to finance the establishment of the organization and be able to set and achieve some early success in key priority area. At the IPCA meeting in Greece there was general agreement that this will require at least a part-time Executive Director, clerical and some operating support. The cost of this was estimated to be $100,000 per year with ongoing significant in-kind contributions from some members.

There was agreement that if this is to be successful there needed to be some lead individuals and organizations willing to step up and support this initiative and that it was highly unlikely to find government or foundation support in the absence of being able to demonstrate a credible organization. So, the financing plan for the first three years will come from internal sources.

Therefore, the Executive supports the following three sources to fund the establishment of the IPALA over the next three years:

  1. Individual Membership: Will be set at $200, $100 and $50 for academic leaders from high, middle and low income countries respectively.

  2. Department Lead Sponsors: Departments with a special interest or commitment to global child health will be invited to be Lead Sponsors of IPALA for a commitment of $2,000 per year for three years. With this commitment they would be able to nominate 4 department faculty members in addition to themselves for membership as well as up to five academic leaders from low or middle income countries, either directly or through a “roster” developed by the IPALA office. Alternatively, existing national Pediatric Chairs Associations could consider subscribing to Corporate Membership with the membership fee linked with the number of departments involved.

  3. Lead Supporting Organizations: We will work to secure Lead Supporting Sponsorship from key organizations associated with academic pediatrics, including IPA, AMSPDC, APA and other regional or national academic organizations.
